Outdoor Lighting in OKC.
Porch lights, soffit downlights, motion-sensor security floods, coach lights, dusk-to-dawn fixtures, garage exterior lighting: exterior fixtures installed wet-location rated, properly sealed, and built to handle Oklahoma weather. Curb appeal, security, and peace of mind across the OKC metro.
Outdoor lighting is the first thing people see, and the first thing burglars notice.
Good outdoor lighting solves multiple things at once: curb appeal, safety on the steps, security around the perimeter, and a welcoming entry. Bad outdoor lighting (or none) costs all of those. Sound familiar?
Coach lights are dated and dim
Those builder-grade brass coach lights on the garage and front door were never your taste. They yellow over time, the seals fail, and they barely light the walkway.
You can't see who's at the door
Old porch lights with a single bulb leave the entry too dim to see clearly from inside. Modern LED entry lighting changes who-knocked-on-the-door from guessing to knowing.
The back yard is a black hole at night
No exterior lighting on the back or sides of the home means complete darkness: bad for security, bad for taking out the trash, bad for letting the dog out. Motion-sensor floods solve it cheaply.
You want soffit downlights
The architectural downwash from soffit-mounted lighting transforms a home’s nighttime appearance, and works as ambient security lighting at the same time. Common in newer builds, easy to retrofit older homes.
You want it on a schedule or smart-controlled
Modern outdoor lighting can be dusk-to-dawn, scheduled by app, voice-controlled, or tied into security routines. We integrate with Lutron Caseta, Philips Hue, and major smart home platforms.
Your old fixtures are leaking water
Failed seals on old outdoor fixtures let water into junction boxes: rust, corrosion, and eventually electrical failure. Replacement with properly sealed wet-rated fixtures fixes it and prevents box damage.
Oklahoma weather is hard on lighting. We install for the long haul.
Outdoor lighting in Oklahoma deals with everything: driving rain, ice, 100°F summers, hail, high winds. Fixtures that aren’t truly weather-rated, or that aren’t properly sealed at the junction box, don’t last. We install only wet-location rated fixtures where exposure demands it, properly silicone-sealed at every connection, on weatherproof boxes that won’t fail in the first ice storm.
We’ve installed exterior lighting on every kind of home in the OKC metro: coach lights and soffit downlights in Edmond subdivisions, motion-sensor floods for Norman properties, complete front-facade upgrades in Nichols Hills, security lighting at rural properties. Same standard everywhere.
What you get from us: weather-rated fixtures matched to location, properly sealed junctions, smart control options where you want them, motion or photocell automation done right, and the kind of clean install that looks like it was designed in from the start.
Three steps. Lit-up exterior.
From first call to lit-up exterior, usually within a week. Most installs done in a single visit.
1. In-Home Quote Visit
We walk the property with you, front, sides, back, look at existing fixtures, identify any dark zones, talk through what you’re trying to achieve (curb appeal, security, both), and recommend fixture types, placement, and controls.
2. Clear Quote, No Surprises
All-in pricing per fixture or per project. Includes weather-rated fixtures, any new wiring runs, motion sensors or photocells, smart switches if requested, and the labor to do it cleanly. Soffit lighting and security projects priced as packages.
3. Clean Install Same Visit
We schedule the day, protect surfaces, install fixtures with proper sealing at every junction, run new wiring where needed, integrate motion/photocell/smart controls, test everything, and clean up. Most projects done in 3-6 hours.

What's included in every install.
A proper outdoor lighting install is more than swapping a fixture. It’s verifying the location’s weather exposure, using the right rated fixture, sealing the junction so weather doesn’t get into the box, ensuring switching works the way you want, and doing it all to code for exterior installations.
Here’s exactly what you get when we install your outdoor lighting: included in the quoted price, with no surprises at the end.
- Removal & disposal of old fixtures: Including any old junction boxes that need replacing
- Wet-location or damp-location rated fixtures: Matched to exposure of the specific location
- Weatherproof exterior junction boxes: Replaced where existing boxes are corroded or non-compliant
- Silicone sealing at all junctions: Stops water intrusion at the fixture-to-wall connection
- Motion sensor or photocell integration: Per your preference, with adjustable sensitivity
- New wiring runs where needed: For fixtures in new locations without existing wiring
- Switches, dimmers, & smart controls: Including Lutron Caseta or smart switch integration
- LED color temperature matched to use: 2700K-3000K for ambient, 3500K-4000K for security/utility
- Final cleanup & full functional test: Everything works before we leave
Every exterior fixture type: installed for Oklahoma weather.

Porch & Coach Lights
Entry · Garage · Side Doors
The classic exterior fixtures: replacing builder-grade with modern LED coach lights, lantern-style entry lights, or contemporary downlights. Often the first upgrade homeowners make.
Soffit & Eave Downlights
Architectural Downwash
Recessed-style lighting installed in soffits and eaves to wash light down the home’s facade. Modern architectural look, doubles as ambient security lighting, common in newer builds.
Motion-Sensor Security Floods
Side Yards · Back Yards · Driveways
LED floodlights with adjustable motion sensors: light up when something moves, stay off otherwise. Quality fixtures with proper sensitivity settings (not the cheap ones that trigger on every leaf).
Dusk-to-Dawn Photocell Lights
Auto On at Night, Off at Day
Built-in photocell turns the fixture on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. Perfect for porch lights, coach lights, post lights: anywhere you want consistent overnight illumination.
Garage & Carport Lighting
Bright LED · Work Lighting
LED wall packs, exterior ceiling fixtures, motion-activated garage lights. Higher-output fixtures for utility areas where you need real visibility for work, parking, or unloading.
Smart-Capable Outdoor
Lutron Caseta · Philips Hue Ready
Outdoor fixtures and smart switches that integrate with major smart home platforms: schedules, voice control, scenes, and routine integration with security systems.
Outdoor lighting fails fast when it's done wrong.
Oklahoma weather is harder on exterior fixtures than most parts of the country: temperature swings, ice storms, hail, blowing rain, and intense summer sun all degrade fixtures and their seals over time. Cut corners on the install and you’re replacing fixtures every few years instead of every twenty.
Here’s what we see when called to fix someone else’s outdoor lighting install.
What Goes Wrong
- Indoor fixtures used outdoors: Damp-rated or non-rated fixtures installed in exposed locations fail in the first weather cycle. Wet-rated only for direct exposure.
- Water gets into the junction box: Missing silicone seal at the fixture-to-wall connection means water finds the box, causes corrosion, and eventually shorts the circuit.
- Cheap motion sensors fail: Bargain-priced motion-sensor floods trigger constantly on every leaf, or stop working after the first hot summer. Quality sensors with proper sensitivity settings last decades.
- Harsh blue-white color temperature: 5000K-6500K LEDs in residential exterior lighting look cold and uninviting. 2700K-3000K is the right temperature for most home exteriors.
- Insufficient lighting on stairs & walkways: Dark steps and pathways are a real liability, and a real fall risk for visitors and family.
- Security gaps invite trouble: Burglars consistently report avoiding well-lit homes. Dark perimeters are an invitation. Motion floods cost very little and pay off in deterrence alone.
Your home looks better, and feels safer.
Good outdoor lighting works on two levels at once. Aesthetically, it transforms how your home appears at night: curb appeal that holds up after sunset. Functionally, it makes the home safer to navigate, more secure against unwanted visitors, and easier to live in day-to-day.
Here’s what daily life looks like after.
Your New Normal
- Welcoming, well-lit entry: You see who's at the door clearly. Visitors find the door easily. The home greets people properly at night.
- Curb appeal that works after sunset: The architecture is visible. The home looks intentional. Resale appeal increases.
- Security around the perimeter: Motion floods light up the sides and back. Dark zones are gone. Burglars move on to easier targets.
- Smooth automation: Dusk-to-dawn lights handle the schedule themselves. Motion floods trigger when they should. Smart control if you want it.
- Built for Oklahoma weather: Wet-rated fixtures, proper seals, weatherproof boxes: fixtures that last decades, not seasons.
- Low energy cost: Modern LED outdoor fixtures use 80-90% less energy than older equivalents. Photocell and motion automation cuts usage further.

How does Kelvin Electric charge for service calls and quotes?
A service call is $175, plus any parts, and we aim to fix the problem within the first hour. If it looks like the job will run past an hour or is more than a quick fix, we stop, explain what we found, and you decide what happens next. For many smaller jobs we can quote from photos or video at no charge. If we arrive and find more than the photos showed, we stop and walk you through what we missed before any work begins. If we need to quote in person, the visit is $175, and it is credited toward the work if you choose to move forward.
How much does outdoor lighting installation cost in Oklahoma City?
Soffit lighting projects are typically quoted as a package. We provide in-home quote visits with all-in pricing. See how Kelvin Electric pricing works on this page, or call (405) 267-7760 for a quote.
What's the difference between damp-rated and wet-rated outdoor fixtures?
Damp-rated fixtures (UL Damp) are for locations protected from direct rain: covered porches, soffits under eaves, covered patios. Wet-rated fixtures (UL Wet) are for locations exposed directly to rain and weather: fixtures on open walls, post-mounted lights, anything without overhead protection. Using a damp-rated fixture in a wet location is a code violation and a common cause of premature failure. We verify rating against location for every install.
What color temperature is best for outdoor lighting?
For most residential exterior lighting, 2700K-3000K (warm white) is the sweet spot. It's welcoming, complements home colors, and avoids the harsh blue-white look that's common with cheap LEDs. Security floods and garage work lights can be 3500K-4000K (neutral) for better visibility. We recommend 5000K (daylight) only for utility areas where visibility matters more than aesthetics.
Should I use motion sensors or dusk-to-dawn photocells?
Depends on the purpose. Dusk-to-dawn photocell lighting stays on all night: ideal for porch lights, coach lights, and main entry lighting where you want consistent illumination. Motion sensors are better for security floods, side yards, and back yards where you only want light when something triggers it. Many modern fixtures combine both: low-level dusk-to-dawn that brightens on motion.
Can outdoor lighting integrate with my smart home?
Yes. We install outdoor lighting compatible with Lutron Caseta, Philips Hue, and major smart home platforms. Schedule porch lights on/off, set scenes for entertaining, control via Alexa or Google Assistant, and tie exterior lighting into security routines. We handle both fixture installation and smart switch integration. More on smart home wiring.
How bright should security lights be?
For motion-activated security floods, 2,000-3,000 lumens per fixture is typical for residential applications: bright enough to deter, not so bright that it blinds neighbors or creates harsh glare. Larger properties may want 4,000+ lumen fixtures for wide coverage. We help spec brightness during the consultation based on the area being covered.
Can you add outdoor lighting where there's no existing wiring?
Yes. Adding new outdoor fixtures requires running wire from an existing exterior circuit (or a new dedicated circuit) to the new location, installing a weatherproof exterior box, and adding a switch. We handle the work with minimal drywall or exterior damage, and pull permits where required.
Do you handle soffit lighting installation?
Yes: soffit lighting is one of our most popular outdoor lighting projects. We install recessed-style LED fixtures into soffits/eaves to wash light down the home's facade, run dedicated switching or photocell control, and finish to current code for exterior installations. Common as a single-elevation upgrade or full perimeter project.
Will outdoor lighting hold up to Oklahoma weather?
Yes. When installed properly. We use only wet-location rated fixtures for exposed locations, silicone-seal every fixture-to-wall connection, install weatherproof exterior junction boxes where needed, and verify all connections are watertight. Properly installed outdoor lighting typically lasts 15-25+ years in OKC weather.
