Electrical Repairs in OKC.
Outlets that don’t work, breakers that trip, lights that flicker, switches that spark, three-way switches that don’t behave: diagnosed systematically and repaired to code. We find the root cause, not just the symptom. Adding outlets and circuits too. OKC metro homes and businesses.
Most electrical issues have obvious symptoms and hidden causes.
The symptom is the easy part: outlet dead, breaker tripped, lights flickering. The harder question is why. Patch jobs don’t solve why. We diagnose the root cause and fix that.
Outlets that don't work
Dead outlets, outlets where only one of the two plugs works, outlets that work intermittently. Could be a tripped GFCI elsewhere on the circuit, a loose connection, a failing outlet, or a broken wire. We find which.
Breakers that keep tripping
A breaker doing its job, or something on the circuit that needs fixing. Overload, short circuit, ground fault, arc fault, or a failing breaker: different causes, different fixes. We diagnose before we recommend.
Lights that flicker or dim
Loose bulb, incompatible dimmer with LEDs, voltage drop when the AC kicks on, loose connections at a switch or outlet, or service-side issues. Some flicker is harmless, some is a fire warning. We tell you which.
Switches that buzz, spark, or feel hot
A switch should be silent and cool. Buzzing or hot switches point to loose connections, overloaded circuits, or failing devices. These are issues worth addressing before they get worse.
You need to add an outlet or circuit
New office, garage workshop, kitchen appliance, EV charger, hot tub: adding capacity where there isn’t any. We run new circuits from the panel, install outlets in new locations, and add the breaker.
Home inspection flagged something
Missing GFCI in bathrooms or kitchens. No AFCI on bedroom circuits. Ungrounded outlets. Open neutrals. Reverse polarity. We correct all of these to current code, often in a single visit.
Diagnose first. Then repair the right thing.
Most electrical repair calls are really troubleshooting calls. The customer knows the symptom, outlet doesn’t work, breaker keeps tripping, lights flicker, but not the cause. The cheap approach is to swap parts until something works. The right approach is to test systematically, identify the actual cause, and fix that. We do the second one.
We’ve handled electrical repairs across the OKC metro: homes in Edmond, older properties in Bethany and Warr Acres, post-storm repairs across Moore and Norman, commercial troubleshooting in OKC business districts. Same approach everywhere: test, identify, repair to code, document.
What you get from us: a tech who actually diagnoses before recommending, repair quotes once we know what’s wrong (no surprises), code-compliant work that won’t get flagged on the next inspection, and an explanation of what went wrong and how to prevent it next time.
Three steps. Problem identified, fixed, gone.
Most repairs are completed in a single visit. Complex troubleshooting that uncovers multiple issues may need a follow-up.
1. Phone Consultation
Call us, describe what’s happening, and we’ll often have a good first guess at the issue before we even schedule. Sometimes we can talk you through checking a tripped GFCI before sending a tech. Other times we know it needs a visit and we schedule.
2. Systematic Diagnosis
On-site, we test methodically: voltage at the outlet, continuity, grounding, GFCI status upstream, breaker condition, wire condition at devices. We identify the actual root cause and explain what we found and what the repair will involve. Clear quote before work proceeds.
3. Code-Compliant Repair
We make the repair to current code. Not just “good enough.” Failed components replaced with proper-rated parts. Loose connections tightened or rewired. GFCI/AFCI protection added where code now requires. Tested before we leave. Documented for your records.
How Kelvin Electric Pricing Works
No guessing. Here is how pricing works, so you know what to expect before we arrive.
Service Call: $175
If something isn’t working right, we come out and work to fix it, usually within the first hour. The service call is $175, plus any parts needed. If it looks like the job will run past an hour or is more than a quick fix, we stop, explain what we found, and you decide what happens next.
In-Person Quote: $175, Credited to Your Job
If we need to see the job in person, the quote visit is $175. If you choose to move forward with the work, that $175 is credited toward it.
What's included in every repair.
An electrical repair isn’t just swapping a part. It’s the diagnostic work, the root cause identification, the code-compliant fix, and the testing that confirms the issue is actually resolved. All of it included.
Here’s exactly what you get when we handle your repair: included in the quoted price, with no surprises at the end.
- Systematic diagnosis & testing: Voltage, continuity, grounding, GFCI status, etc.
- Root cause identification: Not just "what's wrong": "why it's wrong"
- Clear quote before work proceeds: You approve the scope and price up front

From dead outlets to mysterious flicker.
If you’ve got electrical that isn’t working right, it’s almost certainly something we’ve seen and fixed before.
Outlets & Receptacles
Dead · Loose · Scorched
Replacing dead outlets, fixing intermittent outlets, upgrading to grounded outlets, installing GFCI where code requires (bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor, basements). Tamper-resistant outlets, USB outlets, USB-C outlets.
Switches & Dimmers
Broken · Sparking · Wrong Type
Replacing failed switches, repairing three-way and four-way switch wiring (the kind that controls one light from multiple locations), upgrading to LED-compatible dimmers, fixing dimmers that buzz or won’t dim properly.
Breakers & Panel Issues
Tripping · Hot · Failed
Diagnosing why breakers trip, replacing failed breakers, adding new breakers for new circuits, fixing double-tapped breakers (multiple wires on one breaker: a code violation), addressing hot breakers (a warning sign).
Flickering Lights & Power Issues
Diagnostic · Multiple Possible Causes
Investigating flickering: could be bulb, dimmer, loose connection at a switch box, loose neutral somewhere on the circuit, voltage drop from major appliances, or service-side. We test and identify which.
GFCI & AFCI Code Corrections
Inspection Items · Safety Upgrades
Adding GFCI protection in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, basements, exterior outlets, and within 6 feet of any sink (current code). Installing AFCI breakers on bedroom and living area circuits as required for renovations and updated panels.
Adding Outlets & Circuits
New Location · New Circuit
Adding outlets in rooms that don’t have enough, running new dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances (microwave, freezer, EV charger, workshop tools), running circuits to garages and outbuildings. Properly permitted where required.
Patch jobs fix the symptom. The cause comes back.
Electrical repair is one of those areas where it’s easy to make the obvious symptom go away without actually fixing the underlying issue. Outlet works after swap. Light stops flickering after the bulb gets changed. Breaker holds after reset. But if the actual cause wasn’t addressed, the problem returns: sometimes worse, sometimes much worse.
Here’s what we see when called to fix repairs that didn’t take.
Common Bad Repairs
- Outlet swapped without checking why it failed: Often the original outlet failed because of a loose connection upstream: replacing the outlet alone doesn't fix that, and the new outlet eventually fails too.
- Bigger breaker installed to stop tripping: The breaker was tripping because the circuit was overloaded for its wire size. Installing a larger breaker doesn't make the wire bigger. It just allows it to overheat without warning. Fire risk.
- Tape over a hot device or warm switch plate: A hot switch means a loose connection inside. Tape doesn't fix loose connections. The heat continues to build.
- Extension cords as permanent solutions: Extension cords aren't designed for permanent use. They're a sign that the home needs more outlets, and the right answer is to add them.
- "Code grandfathered" excuses for inspection items: Inspection-flagged items (no GFCI in bathrooms, ungrounded outlets) need correction. "It was code when built" doesn't help if there's an event and insurance investigates.
- Three-way switches wired wrong on a previous repair: Common DIY mistake: the lights work but the switches don't behave logically (both have to be in a specific position). We fix this correctly.
Issue actually gone. No follow-up call needed.
A proper repair is the kind you don’t think about again. The outlet just works. The breaker just holds. The lights just stay steady. And you know what was actually wrong, what we did about it, and what to keep an eye on. If anything.
Here’s what daily life looks like after.
Your New Normal
- The issue is actually fixed: Root cause addressed, not just symptom patched. The problem doesn't come back next month.
- Code-compliant for inspections: GFCI/AFCI where required, grounded outlets, proper wire sizes. Insurance and inspection don't flag it.
- One visit, problem solved: Diagnose, quote, repair, test, leave. No follow-up calls for the same issue.
- Documented findings: You know what was wrong, what was done, what to monitor. Good for resale, good for your own awareness.
- Quality components installed: Commercial-grade outlets and switches that don't fail in two years.
- Peace of mind: No more wondering whether the buzzing switch is going to start a fire someday. The issue is handled.
Often paired with electrical repairs.
Emergency Services
Burning smell, sparking outlets, hot devices, sudden total power loss, for urgent electrical safety issues, see our emergency services page for fast-response options.
Panel Upgrades
When repairs keep coming back to an old or undersized panel, Federal Pacific, Zinsco, 60-100 amp service, the right answer is panel replacement, not repeated repairs.
Home Rewiring
When multiple repairs are needed across an older home with knob-and-tube, cloth-insulated, or aluminum branch wiring, full rewiring is often more economical than repeated repairs.

Don’t see your question? Call (405) 267-7760 and we’ll give you a straight answer.
How does Kelvin Electric charge for service calls and quotes?
A service call is $175, plus any parts, and we aim to fix the problem within the first hour. If it looks like the job will run past an hour or is more than a quick fix, we stop, explain what we found, and you decide what happens next. If we need to quote in person, the visit is $175, and it is credited toward the work if you choose to move forward.
How much does an electrical repair cost in Oklahoma City?
The cost depends on the scope of the work, so we quote it before we start. See how Kelvin Electric pricing works on this page, or call (405) 267-7760 for a quote.
Why do my circuit breakers keep tripping?
Breaker tripping is a symptom, not a problem: the breaker is doing its job protecting the circuit from something. Common causes: overloaded circuit (too many devices on one circuit), short circuit (hot wire touching ground or neutral), ground fault (current leaking to ground), arc fault (loose connection or damaged wire creating arcs), or a failing breaker itself. The right fix depends on which one. We diagnose systematically: never just reset it and hope.
Why are my lights flickering?
Flickering has several possible causes: loose bulb (most innocuous), incompatible dimmer with LED bulbs (very common), loose connection at switch or outlet on the same circuit (potential fire hazard: needs attention), voltage fluctuation from a major appliance cycling on (HVAC, dryer), service-side voltage issues from the utility, or aging wiring. The first two are easy fixes. The third is serious. We diagnose which one before recommending a fix.
Do you offer same-day electrical repair service?
We try to accommodate urgent repairs same-day or next-day when scheduling allows. Call us: we'll be honest about availability. For non-urgent repairs, we typically schedule within 2-5 business days. For safety-emergencies like burning smells, hot outlets, or sparking, see our emergency services page.
When should I call an electrician instead of doing it myself?
Honest answer: most homeowners can change a light bulb or replace a basic outlet that's the exact same type. Beyond that, electrical work is one of the highest-risk DIY categories: both for fire risk during work and code violations that affect insurance claims later. Call us when: you need to add a new circuit, you're not sure why a breaker is tripping, you smell burning, you see scorched outlets, an outlet is hot to touch, GFCI/AFCI protection needs added, or any time you're not 100% sure.
My outlet looks scorched or smells burnt. What do I do?
Stop using anything plugged into that outlet. If you can identify the breaker for it, turn that breaker off. Don't reset it. Call us. This is one of the more urgent calls we get because a scorched outlet means heat was building, and that's how electrical fires start. We prioritize these calls. Don't wait for it to "stop smelling": the underlying issue doesn't go away on its own.
Do you handle small repairs or just big jobs?
Both. We handle single-outlet replacements just as readily as panel upgrades or whole-home rewires. Small jobs done right matter. Every repair is a chance to either fix the underlying issue or paper over it. We do the first one regardless of job size.
Do electrical repairs require permits?
Depends on scope. Simple device replacements (outlet for outlet, switch for switch) typically don't require permits. Adding new circuits, replacing a panel, running new wiring for new outlets or appliances usually does. We pull permits where required and handle the inspection process: important for insurance and for any future home sale.
What if you can't fully diagnose the issue?
Rare, but it happens, especially with intermittent issues that aren't acting up when we're on-site. In those cases we'll tell you honestly what we found, what we suspect, what to watch for, and we'll come back if the issue reappears. We don't bill for repairs that didn't happen, and we don't guess.
Diagnose the issue. Fix it right.
Schedule a repair or ask a question. Otherwise we schedule the visit and bring the right tools and parts.
